As comfortable with Serendipity as I had become using it as my blog engine, there were still some things about it that I felt it lacked. The first little while, I had fun tweaking it just the way I liked, finding features it lacked and adding them by hand (pain-stakingly I might add, albeit enjoying it in a twisted sort of way). The more I used it, the more it seemed to lack, and the more tired it made me seem to feel, knowing I’d have to wait possibly months for someone to add a feature, or knowing I could add it myself if I just dedicated some time for it.

And therein laid the problem. I’ve got better things to do with my time than tinker with the backend of a blog engine, for a blog with a readership of maybe one person (two if I include my self).

I wanted to stick with all the features Serendipity already has, but wanted native cruft-free URLs, threaded categories, better administration, and better support. So after looking a some alternatives, I’ve decided to try out WordPress for a while. Importing my existing posts over to WordPress wasn’t impossible, but there was a slight problem. I used Serendipity’s export RSS feature, and imported the XML using WordPress’s Import RSS. However, all the entries had the tags HTML-encoded (i.e. <a href=”"> became <a href="">), which was obviously a pain. A couple hours later and all the entries were back to normal. There was probably a quick way to do it, but I’m a lazy programmer, so of course I grumbled through it the hard way.

Oh, and it looks like it lost the comments. I still have them in the database, so I can probably fabricate them somehow.

And of course, I plan on redesigning the look and feel of the site. Right now, it’s still using the default WordPress template.

Why the new domain name? It’s one I’ve had for a couple of years that I’ve been meaning to activate, so what better way than a new revision of my blog. Why wqoq, though? Rotate it 180° and you’ll see. Clever, ain’t it?

Anyway, we’ll see how this goes.

Why is anime so friggin’ expensive? I was looking into maybe buying Full Metal Panic and Chobits on DVD from Amazon.ca, and FMP is like $45 a disc; for something like 4 half-hour episodes each. I found a little bit better deal for Tenchi Muyo at DeepDiscountDVD.com, and can sometimes find some reasonable prices at the local London Drugs or Tramps. When I was in Winnipeg, the Best Buy there had some really good prices (something like $6 cheaper than FutureShop for the same title, which was odd because FutureShop is owned by Best Buy, and it was literally only two doors down from the Best Buy). I’ll have to check out what Calgary has to offer when I’m there next month for a weekend.

And on a side note, the final CD of several I ordered from Amazon.ca back in January shipped! I’ll believe it when I hold it in my hands, though.

I found a tutorial about converting your site’s font-size definitions from pixels to em’s.

I haven’t converted this site, yet, but I’ve done it with some of my other sites with some success. It’s just another step on one’s way to making a fully flexible and standards compliant Web site.

 1. When a sword is knocked from one’s hand, it should land standing straight up stuck in the ground
 2. Female elves are hotties
 3. Fire Dragons reside in Demon Dragon Mountains
 4. Demon Dragons reside in Fire Dragon Mountains
 5. Goblin leaders have mutton chops

See here if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

I lost my virginity, and his name was KillerJ007. That’s right, I finally broke down and bought a network adapter for my PS2. Setting it up was a breeze.

My first online game was the demo for Madden 2004. I was playing the Jets. I won the coin toss, and elected to receive. A short kick to the right side of the field, I had no where to go and only got about 5-10 return yards (apparently an exceptional return for the NFL). First down, an incomplete 15 yard pass straight down the middle of the field. Second down, the quarterback decides to run with it, starts getting pressure from the left, and lobs a beautiful spiraling throw into section 22, row 12, seat 17. Someone’s caught tripping, and now I’m 2nd and 20. Second down repeated, a quick pass to the WR in the right flights, KillerJ007 misses the tackle by a mile, and I run the ball up the field an extra 30 yards or so. First down, an attempted pass to deep left, quarterback is pressured… FUMBLE! Opposing team recovers. First down on defense, I line up in 3-4 formation, 16 seconds left in the 1st, KillerJ007 calls for a timeout. Play resumes, again I go into a 3-4 formation, KillerJ007 quits. I win!
