It'll Never Fly

Clever… not good, but clever.

This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. Everyone has their list of top games without which they can’t imagine ever having gone through life. It’s kind of like Desert Island Movies, but with video games. It’s not so much a list of games I’d want if I were on a desert island, rather than a list of games I’m recognizing as having influenced me and my life in some large or small way.

I started off trying to do a Desert Island Video Games list, but, having tried, I don’t think it’s possible to come up with as small a list for games as it is for movies. Movies from one decade to the next don’t really change that much. Sure, technological advances mean better and more realistic special effects, but the actual story telling aspect of movies hasn’t really changed since the earliest days of humankind. I could see it being possible to create a Desert Island Video Games list for a particular console, but not for an entire lifetime.

I tried keeping the list to just my top 5 favourite games, and quickly realized that was too limiting. Then I tried 10, but that didn’t work, so I thought I’d shoot for 25, then 40…

So here it is in all its glory! My top 129 video games of all time, presented in chunks in reverse order, starting at the last (but by no means the least) and eventually reaching my bestest, most favouritest game in the whole world of all time (yes, including the future).

[I haven't started writing it, yet, but I'll provide a link once I do. This is just a teaser to let you know what I'll be up to for the next little while.]
