Oilers vs. Bruins, 3 Dec 2005
I went to my first ever NHL game last weekend. It was the Boston Bruins visiting the Edmonton Oilers last Saturday.
Here’s a set of photos I took at the game. They made me stop part way through the 2nd period because they thought I was video recording. Rather than argue, I complied. I snapped a picture of them scoring a goal earlier and that’s all I really wanted.
I think what happened is that I was holding down the auto-focus button almost continually to keep it locked, which may have been emitting an infrared beam. Their equipment must have been picking that up and they freaked out. The security lady said she saw nothing remotely like a red light coming from my camera. She was nice enough take take a picture of my cousin and I with the ice in the background after the game for me, though.
What a shame, too, because I never was recording any video. At least we got our money’s worth. Some guy for the Oilers named Harvey scored during a “Big Mac Minute” so everyone in attendance (about 17,000 people) got a free Big Mac from McDonald’s (they handed out vouchers as people were leaving after the game). And it went to overtime, when a Boston player scored with 30 seconds to go to win the game. Personally, I was hoping for a shootout.
I guess there’s always March. I’ll be going back to Edmonton again to see the Detroit Red Wings on the 18th.
